Building renovation

Ochrana netopýrů v lidských stavbách

Natural bat roosts include tree hollows and crevices, rock fissures and, above all, caves. Buildings often show similar characteristics as natural roosts and are thus used by a number of bat species. However, many of these roosts are destroyed due to large-scale renovations and heat cladding of buildings in recent years. In some cases, large numbers of bats die after being imprisoned in their roost during building work. Considering the rate and extent of these renovations, there is an urgent need to solve the situation, otherwise a significant decline of some bat species using this roost type can be expected.

Solutions and methods how to carry out the renovation to minimise its negative impact on bats are well known and are also relatively simple and inexpensive. Details on this can be found in the following chapters.

When sharing the house with bats, certain problems may arise. However, there almost always is some reasonable way how to solve the situation, respecting the needs of both humans and bats.
